About Amrita Kaur

About Amrita Kaur

Born in the United Kingdom, with deep roots in Malaysia, Amrita Kaur moved to New Zealand with her family over two decades ago. By the age of 7, she was already singing Sikh kirtan at local Auckland Gurudwaras alongside her father, the renowned kirtaniya Bhai Yadvinder Singh. At 11, she began formal training in Indian classical music under Professor Shukdev Madhur.

Even while pursuing her Master’s degree in Architectural Studies at the University of Auckland, Amrita’s passion for music remained unwavering. Her thesis, titled "Ragamala - A Garland of Architecture and Music," explored the deep connection between Indian classical ragas and architectural design — a true fusion of two art forms.

Her diverse repertoire today includes devotional kirtan, ghazals, Sufi music, Punjabi folk, Hindi film music, and classical compositions.
In 2023, she made history by becoming the first Sikh artist to perform a solo concert in Lahore, Pakistan, through the Virsa Heritage Revived series, touching over 700,000 hearts through YouTube. She has since performed globally across Pakistan, Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, and is set to tour the USA, Canada, and India in 2024.

Through her soulful music and global outreach, Amrita Kaur continues to bridge cultures, awaken hearts, and carry Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s timeless message of compassion, humility, and divine unity to every corner of the world.
